Creating a personalised sleep coach

Getting good sleep is a challenge faced by many, and is increasinly understood as a significant factor in overall health and wellbeing.

Many view technology as detrimental to sleep. We're often told to avoid screens before bed, for example. But with careful design, technology can actually support healthier sleep habits.

This was my first experience designing cross-device journeys, where users engaged with features on their different devices throughout the day.

Over a long collaboration, we designed a comprehensive sleep improvement product that supported users both at night and throughout their day.

The Nest Hub tracks users sleep without wearing a device, provides smart alarms and wind-down features. Then, the Google Fit app gives users tips and insights to help improve their sleep over time.

Why this project is a highlight for me:

  • An opportunity to develop new UI and cross-device content experiences
  • Using content to make the subject of sleep hygiene accessible to the everyday user
  • Working closely with specialist partners to develop a content strategy with robust legal, privacy, and clinical backing
